An inspiring story has emerged about an 84-year-old retiree from New Zealand, who revealed his remarkable journey to saving $2.3 million. Speaking to Coposit in a TikTok interview filmed on a bench in Sydney, the former truck and public transport driver shared how hard work and property investment helped him achieve financial freedom.

Initially hesitant to disclose his savings, the retiree opened up about his success, saying, "I invested some money, which I trebled, and that gave me a chance to build on." He worked as a driver for trucks, trams, and buses in Wellington, New Zealand, and bought his first house 30 years ago, taking advantage of a more favorable property market.

"The property market was a lot better than what it is now," he admitted, but he encouraged younger generations to embrace opportunities, even in today’s challenging conditions. "It's up to them; if they want to work, they can work and make money," he said.

The retiree shared some advice for those aspiring to build wealth through property: "Save up or else capitalise with the bank, borrow yourself right up to the hilt with a house, and then within 18 months sell it when it starts going up."

While his story received widespread admiration, social media users noted that the strategies that worked in his era may be more difficult to replicate now. Some pointed out the skyrocketing property prices, with one commenting, "That generation - if you bought property, you are now sweet."

Despite the challenges, this story underscores the potential of property investment as a pathway to financial security, a belief at the heart of Coposit’s mission to make homeownership accessible to everyone.
