Coposit’s popular street interview series has gone viral again, this time asking Baby Boomers across Australia one simple question: How much do you have in savings?
The answers took the internet by surprise. From retirees with millions to seniors with only a few thousand, the responses paint an honest picture of generational wealth in Australia.
Yahoo Finance Australia recently featured the story, highlighting the range of savings and how timing in the property market has shaped financial outcomes for different Australians.
A 68-year-old retired accountant told Coposit he had $4 million in savings. He explained he built his wealth through years of work and property speculation.
Another man, aged 73, had over $5 million saved after running a successful water treatment business. A 66-year-old American electrical engineer said he had a couple of million dollars after a long academic career.
Many of them credited early entry into the property market as a key factor in their financial success.
Not all stories reflected wealth. A 72-year-old former security guard said he had just $1,200 in savings and was currently putting money aside for a five-week trip to Vietnam.
A 64-year-old woman who worked in admin at a Gold Coast hospital said she had $40,000 saved. She said her financial stability came from buying property at the right time and paying off her home after selling a unit she purchased earlier in life.
“We sold the unit at a high price, paid the house off and had enough left to top up super,” she said. “You play the market and you play the money game.”
These stories have reignited conversation around home ownership and affordability. The path to buying your first home today is more difficult than in the past. House prices have soared, and saving a full deposit feels impossible for many.
That is why Coposit is changing the way Australians buy property.
Coposit helps eligible buyers secure a brand-new property with just $10,000 upfront. The rest of the deposit is paid in weekly instalments while the property is being built. No interest. No full deposit needed at once.
This gives first-home buyers, renters and upgraders a realistic path into the market.
